What should you consider when choosing a BJJ School?

With the increase of the popularity of Jiu-Jitsu, tons of BJJ schools are popping all over the places. But how can someone pick a good school? here are some tips on how to find the best one for you.

1. First Think about what are you looking for. There are places that will focus on kids, places focused on competitions, places that will focus on families. Usually you can feel the vibe of the place when you visit it. So when trying to find a new place to train, go visit it in person and talk to people that train there already. Ask them what they think about the place. Open mats can also work to get to know the places.

2. Is there a curriculum to be followed? Remember, Jiu-Jitsu is a Martial Art, it has techniques to be taught. As in any other subject you are learning we need to follow a line of thinking and it really helps when the school has a curriculum to be followed.

3. How clean is the place. Jiu-Jitsu is a contact sport, that being said it's pretty obvious that good standards of hygiene need to be in place. Not only the uniforms, but also the facility and specially the mats.

4. Who is teaching the classes. It's not unusual to see people being trained by instructors that didn't got their black belts yet. And although it can happen, it should always have a black belt super visioning the class.

There are some other things you should consider when trying to find a BJJ School. As the sport grows many new gyms appears.
